"Trust in the LORD
with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all
thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy
path." Proverbs 3:5-6

I Corinthians 15:26
The last enemy [that] shall
be destroyed [is] death.
I Corinthians 15:50-51
Now this I say, brethren, that
flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption
inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at
the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on
incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. So when this corruptible
shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality,
then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed
up in victory. O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory?
II Corinthians 7:10
For godly sorrow worketh repentance
to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh
death.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
To every [thing there is] a
season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born,
and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which
is] planted.
Ecclesiastes 8:8
[There is] no man that hath
power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither [hath he] power in
the day of death: and [there is] no discharge in [that] war; neither shall
wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
For the living know that they
shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more
a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their
hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion
for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 12:7
Then shall the dust return
to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Genesis 3:19
In the sweat of thy face shalt
thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou
taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return.
Jeremiah 21:8
And unto this people thou shalt
say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and
the way of death.
Jeremiah 22:10
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: [but] weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return
no more, nor see his native country.
Job 3:17
There the wicked cease [from]
troubling; and there the weary be at rest.
John 5:24
Verily, verily, I say unto
you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting
life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto
life.

And whosoever liveth and believeth
in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
Luke 2:29-32

Luke 23:43
And Jesus said unto him, Verily
I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

[is] life; and [in] the pathway [thereof there is] no death.
Proverbs 14:32
The wicked is driven away in
his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
Proverbs 16:25
There is a way that seemeth
right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life [are] in the
power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

[He that is] our God [is] the
God of salvation; and unto GOD the Lord [belong] the issues from death.
Psalms 88:3
For my soul is full of troubles:
and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. I am counted with them that go
down into the pit: I am as a man [that hath] no strength: Free among the
dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more:
and they are cut off from thy hand. Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit,
in darkness, in the deeps. Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast
afflicted [me] with all thy waves. Selah. Thou hast put away mine acquaintance
far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: [I am] shut up,
and I cannot come forth. Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD,
I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise [and] praise thee?
Selah.
Psalms 90:9-10
For all our days are passed
away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale [that is told]. The days
of our years [are] threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength
[they be] fourscore years, yet [is] their strength labour and sorrow; for
it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Psalms 104:27-30
These wait all upon thee; that
thou mayest give [them] their meat in due season. [That] thou givest them
they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. Thou hidest
thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and
return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created:
and thou renewest the face of the earth.

death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.
Colossians 3:12-13
Put on therefore, as the elect
of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind,
meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another,
if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also
[do] ye.
Job 15:31
Let not him that is deceived
trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
Job 31:5
If I have walked with vanity,
or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; Let me be weighed in an even balance
that God may know mine integrity.
Matthew 23:27-28
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear
beautiful outward, but are within full of dead [men's] bones, and of all
uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within
ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Job 40:12
Look on every one [that is]
proud, [and] bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
I John 5:4-5
For whatsoever is born of God
overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world,
[even] our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth
that Jesus is the Son of God?
Romans 8:31-39
What shall we then say to these
things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us? He that spared not
his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him
also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of
God's elect? [It is] God that justifieth. Who [is] he that condemneth?
[It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even
at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall
separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress,
or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written,
For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep
for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor
life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor
things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be
able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
Romans 5:1-5
Therefore being justified by
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also
we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in
hope of the glory of God. And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations
also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience;
and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of
God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto
us.
James 4:9-10
Be afflicted, and mourn, and
weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
John 16:20
Verily, verily, I say unto
you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye
shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
Joshua 1:6-11
Be strong and of a good courage:
for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which
I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous,
that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my
servant commanded thee: turn not from it [to] the right hand or [to] the
left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the
law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein
day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is
written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and
of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD
thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest. Then Joshua commanded
the officers of the people, saying, Pass through the host, and command
the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall
pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your
God giveth you to possess it.
Psalms 42:5-6
Why art thou cast down, O my
soul? and [why] art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall
yet praise him [for] the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is
cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan,
and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
Psalms 34:1-22
([A Psalm] of David, when he
changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.)
I will bless the LORD at all
times: his praise [shall] continually [be] in my mouth. My soul shall make
her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear [thereof], and be glad. O
magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought
the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked
unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor
man cried, and the LORD heard [him], and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth
them. O taste and see that the LORD [is] good: blessed [is] the man [that]
trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for [there is] no want
to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but
they that seek the LORD shall not want any good [thing]. Come, ye children,
hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. What man [is he
that] desireth life, [and] loveth [many] days, that he may see good? Keep
thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil,
and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD [are] upon
the righteous, and his ears [are open] unto their cry. The face of the
LORD [is] against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them
from the earth. [The righteous] cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth
them out of all their troubles. The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of
a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many [are]
the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them
all. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay
the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. The LORD
redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him
shall be desolate.
Psalms 91:1-16
He that dwelleth in the secret
place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I
will say of the LORD, [He is] my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him
will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
[and] from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers,
and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth [shall be thy] shield and
buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; [nor] for the
arrow [that] flieth by day; [Nor] for the pestilence [that] walketh in
darkness; [nor] for the destruction [that] wasteth at noonday. A thousand
shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; [but] it shall
not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the
reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, [which is] my refuge,
[even] the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his
angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear
thee up in [their] hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou
shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt
thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore
will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I [will be] with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him,
and shew him my salvation.
Psalms 121:1-8
(A Song of degrees.)
I will lift up mine eyes unto
the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help [cometh] from the LORD,
which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he
that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall
neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD [is] thy keeper: the LORD [is] thy
shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the
moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall in
from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Joshua 1:6-11
Be strong and of a good courage:

Luke 8:22
Now it came to pass on a certain
day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them,
Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind
on the lake; and they were filled [with water], and were in jeopardy. And
they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then
he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased,
and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they
being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this!
for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
I Peter 5:6-11
Humble yourselves therefore
under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting
all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because
your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom
he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same
afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But
the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ
Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish,
strengthen, settle [you]. To him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
Psalms 91:1-16

Psalms 118:5-6
I called upon the LORD in distress:
the LORD answered me, [and set me] in a large place. The LORD [is] on my
side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Psalms 121:1-8
(A Song of degrees.)
I will lift up mine eyes unto
the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help [cometh] from the LORD,

this time forth, and even for evermore.
II Corinthians 4:8-18
[We are] troubled on every
side, yet not distressed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted,
but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in
the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might
be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto
death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest
in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you. We having
the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore
have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which
raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present
[us] with you. For all things [are] for your sakes, that the abundant grace
might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For
which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward
[man] is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for
a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding [and] eternal weight of glory;
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which
are not seen: for the things which are seen [are] temporal; but the things
which are not seen [are] eternal.
Joshua 1:6-11

Matthew 5:11-12
Blessed are ye, when [men]
shall revile you, and persecute [you], and shall say all manner of evil
against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great
[is] your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were
before you.
I Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves therefore
under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
Philippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always:
[and] again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men.
The Lord [is] at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto
God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep
your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Psalms 23:1-6
(A Psalm of David.)
The LORD [is] my shepherd;
I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth
me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the
paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art]
with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with
oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all
the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Psalms 42:6-11
O my God, my soul is cast down
within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and
of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise
of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. [Yet]
the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night
his song [shall be] with me, [and] my prayer unto the God of my life. I
will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy? [As] with a sword in my bones,
mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where [is] thy
God? Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within
me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, [who is] the health of
my countenance, and my God.
Psalms 55:22
Cast thy burden upon the LORD,
and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Deuteronomy 25:13-16
Thou shalt not have in thy
bag divers weights, a great and a small. Thou shalt not have in thine house
divers measures, a great and a small. [But] thou shalt have a perfect and
just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days
may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. For all
that do such things, [and] all that do unrighteously, [are] an abomination
unto the LORD thy God.
Hosea 12:7
[He is] a merchant, the balances
of deceit [are] in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
Leviticus 6:2
If a soul sin, and commit a
trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was
delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence,
or hath deceived his neighbour; Or have found that which was lost, and
lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man
doeth, sinning therein: Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is
guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the
thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him
to keep, or the lost thing which he found, Or all that about which he hath
sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add
the fifth part more thereto, [and] give it unto him to whom it appertaineth,
in the day of his trespass offering. And he shall bring his trespass offering
unto the LORD, a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation,
for a trespass offering, unto the priest: And the priest shall make an
atonement for him before the LORD: and it shall be forgiven him for any
thing of all that he hath done in trespassing therein.
Leviticus 19:35-36
Ye shall do no unrighteousness
in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. Just balances, just
weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I [am] the LORD your
God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.

I Corinthians 7:10
And unto the married I command,
[yet] not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from [her] husband:
But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to [her]
husband: and let not the husband put away [his] wife. But to the rest speak
I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she
be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which
hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with
her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by
the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were
your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart,
let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such [cases]:
but God hath called us to peace. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether
thou shalt save [thy] husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou
shalt save [thy] wife? But as God hath distributed to every man, as the
Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
Deuteronomy 24:1-4
When a man hath taken a wife,
and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes,
because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a
bill of divorcement, and give [it] in her hand, and send her out of his
house. And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another
man's [wife]. And [if] the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill
of divorcement, and giveth [it] in her hand, and sendeth her out of his
house; or if the latter husband die, which took her [to be] his wife; Her
former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife,
after that she is defiled; for that [is] abomination before the LORD: and
thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee
[for] an inheritance.
Mark 10:2-12
And the Pharisees came to him,
and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away [his] wife? tempting
him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And
they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put [her]
away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart
he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made
them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then
they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together,
let not man put asunder. And in the house his disciples asked him again
of the same [matter]. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away
his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a
woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth
adultery.
Matthew 5:31-32
It hath been said, Whosoever
shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: But
I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the
cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall
marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Matthew 19:1-12
And it came to pass, [that]
when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came
into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; And great multitudes followed
him; and he healed them there. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting
him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for
every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that
he which made [them] at the beginning made them male and female, And said,
For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to
his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more
twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not
man put asunder. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give
a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses
because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives:
but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall
put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another,
committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit
adultery. His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with
[his] wife, it is not good to marry. But he said unto them, All [men] cannot
receive this saying, save [they] to whom it is given. For there are some
eunuchs, which were so born from [their] mother's womb: and there are some
eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have
made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able
to receive [it], let him receive [it].
Proverbs 25:19
Confidence in an unfaithful
man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly
unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help
in time of need.
John 20:24
But Thomas, one of the twelve,
called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples
therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them,
Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger
into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not
believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas
with them: [then] came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst,
and said, Peace [be] unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy
finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it]
into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered
and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because
thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not
seen, and [yet] have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in
the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But
these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Matthew 8:26
And he saith unto them, Why
are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds
and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Matthew 14:28-31
And Peter answered him and
said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said,
Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water,
to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and
beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus
stretched forth [his] hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of
little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Isaiah 19:14
The LORD hath mingled a perverse
spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every
work thereof, as a drunken [man] staggereth in his vomit.
Isaiah 28:7-8
But they also have erred through
wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet
have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are
out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble [in]
judgment. For all tables are full of vomit [and] filthiness, [so that there
is] no place [clean].
Hosea 7:5
In the day of our king the
princes have made [him] sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his
hand with scorners.
Proverbs 23:29-35
Who hath woe? who hath sorrow?
who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause?
who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go
to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it
giveth his colour in the cup, [when] it moveth itself aright. At the last
it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall
behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea,
thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that
lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, [shalt thou say, and]
I was not sick; they have beaten me, [and] I felt [it] not: when shall
I awake? I will seek it yet again.
