GUIDANCE: A-Z
"Trust in the LORD
with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all
thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy
path." Proverbs 3:5-6
C
I Corinthians 13:1-3
Though I speak with the tongues
of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass,
or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand
all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that
I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though
I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to
be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
II Corinthians 8:13-14
For [I mean] not that other
men be eased, and ye burdened: But by an equality, [that] now at this time
your abundance [may be a supply] for their want, that their abundance also
may be [a supply] for your want: that there may be equality.
II Corinthians 9:6-7
But this [I say], He which
soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully
shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his
heart, [so let him give]; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth
a cheerful giver.
Deuteronomy 15:7-8
If there be among you a poor
man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the
LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine
hand from thy poor brother: But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him,
and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, [in that] which he wanteth.
Hebrews 13:16
But to do good and to communicate
forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
Isaiah 58:6-7
[Is] not this the fact that
I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens,
and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? [Is it]
not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that
are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him;
and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
James 2:15-17
If a brother or sister be naked,
and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace,
be [ye] warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things
which are needful to the body; what [doth it] profit? Even so faith, if
it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
I John 3:17
But whoso hath this world's
good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels [of compassion]
from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
Luke 3:11
He answereth and saith unto
them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and
he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
Luke 14:12
Then said he also to him that
bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends,
nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor [thy] rich neighbours; lest
they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou
makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou
shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed
at the resurrection of the just.
Matthew 5:42
Give to him that asketh thee,
and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Matthew 6:2-4
Therefore when thou doest [thine]
alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues
and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto
you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left
hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret:
and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 19:21
Jesus said unto him, If thou
wilt be perfect, go [and] sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and
thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come [and] follow me.
Proverbs 3:27
Withhold not good from them
to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do [it].

He that giveth unto the poor
shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

of David.)
Blessed [is] he that considereth
the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
II Thessalonians 1:3
We are bound to thank God always
for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly,
and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth.
Amos 8:4-7
Hear this, O ye that swallow
up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail, Saying, When will
the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may
set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying
the balances by deceit? That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy
for a pair of shoes; [yea], and sell the refuse of the wheat? The LORD
hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of
their works.
Hosea 12:7-8
[He is] a merchant, the balances
of deceit [are] in his hand: he loveth to oppress. And Ephraim said, Yet
I am become rich, I have found me out substance: [in] all my labours they
shall find none iniquity in me that [were] sin.
James 5:4
Behold, the hire of the labourers
who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth:
and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the
Lord of sabbath.
Jeremiah 9:5
And they will deceive every
one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their
tongue to speak lies, [and] weary themselves to commit iniquity.
Leviticus 6:1
And the LORD spoke unto Moses,
saying, If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie
unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship,
or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour; Or
have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely;
in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein: Then it shall be,
because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which
he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten,
or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found.
Leviticus 19:11-13
Ye shall not steal, neither
deal falsely, neither lie one to another. And ye shall not swear by my
name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I [am] the
LORD. Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob [him]: the wages
of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.
Proverbs 3:28
Say not unto thy neighbour,
Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
Proverbs 11:1
A false balance [is] abomination
to the LORD: but a just weight [is] his delight.
Psalms 37:21
The wicked borroweth, and payeth
not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
Psalms 62:10
Trust not in oppression, and
become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart [upon
them].
Colossians 3:12-13
Put on therefore, as the elect
of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind,
meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another,
if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also
[do] ye.
Ephesians 4:32
And be ye kind one to another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath
forgiven you.

before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will
shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
Exodus 34:6-7
And the LORD passed by before
him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering,
and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving
iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear [the
guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon
the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth [generation].
Galatians 6:2
Bear ye one another's burdens,
and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Job 6:14

[should be shewed] from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
Matthew 18:33
Shouldest not thou also have
had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and
say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto
one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.
I Peter 3:8
Finally, [be ye] all of one
mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, [be] pitiful,
[be] courteous.
Philippians 2:4
Look not every man on his own
things, but every man also on the things of others.
Romans 12:15
Rejoice with them that do rejoice,
and weep with them that weep.
I Corinthians 10:12
Wherefore let him that thinketh
he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Galatians 6:3
For if a man think himself
to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Luke 18:9-14
And he spoke this parable unto
certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised
others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and
the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself,
God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust,
adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give
tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would
not lift up so much as [his] eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast,
saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down
to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth
himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Philippians 2:3-11
[Let] nothing [be done] through
strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better
than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also
on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ
Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal
with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form
of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion
as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the
death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given
him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things]
under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ
[is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all
thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
Proverbs 26:16
The sluggard [is] wiser in
his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
Romans 12:16
[Be] of the same mind one toward
another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be
not wise in your own conceits.
Isaiah 64:6
But we are all as an unclean
[thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do
fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
James 5:15-16
And the prayer of faith shall
save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed
sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess [your] faults one to another,
and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent
prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Job 7:20
I have sinned; what shall I
do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against
thee, so that I am a burden to myself?
Job 40:4
Behold, I am vile; what shall
I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
I John 1:8-9
If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.
Leviticus 5:5
And it shall be, when he shall
be guilty in one of these [things], that he shall confess that he hath
sinned in that [thing].

And there went out unto him
all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of

not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh [them] shall have mercy.
Psalm 32:1-8
[A Psalm] of David, Maschil.
Blessed [is he whose] transgression
[is] forgiven, [whose] sin [is] covered. Blessed [is] the man unto whom
the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit [there is] no guile.
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day
long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned
into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and
mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions
unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. For this
shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest
be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh
unto him. Thou [art] my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble;
thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct
thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with
mine eye. I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned
against thee.
Psalms 51:1-2
(To the chief Musician, A Psalm
of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to
Bath-sheba.)

according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender
mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
Psalms 69:5-6
O God, thou knowest my foolishness;
and my sins are not hid from thee. Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord
GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded
for my sake, O God of Israel.
I Corinthians 14:33
For God is not [the author]
of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Isaiah 50:7
For the Lord GOD will help
me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like
a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
Jeremiah 3:25
We lie down in our shame, and
our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God,
we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed
the voice of the LORD our God.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all
thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways
acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Psalms 35:4
Let them be confounded and
put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought
to confusion that devise my hurt.
II Corinthians 1:3-4
Blessed [be] God, even the
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of
all comfort. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able
to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves
are comforted of God.
II Corinthians 7:6
Nevertheless God, that comforteth
those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus.
II Corinthians 12:8-10
For this thing I besought the
Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace
is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most
gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power
of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in
reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's
sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Hebrews 12:3-13
For consider him that endured
such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint
in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children,
My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou
art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth
every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with
you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But
if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards,
and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected
[us], and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection
unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened
[us] after their own pleasure; but he for [our] profit, that [we] might
be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth
to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable
fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore
lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight
paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way;
but let it rather be healed.
Hebrews 13:5-6
[Let your] conversation [be]
without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for
he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may
boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall
do unto me.
Isaiah 40:1
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people,
saith your God.
Isaiah 51:12

you: who [art] thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man [that] shall
die, and of the son of man [which] shall be made [as] grass.
Job 15:11
[Are] the consolations of God
small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

Yea, though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art]
with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psalms 86:17
Shew me a token for good; that
they which hate me may see [it], and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast
holpen me, and comforted me.
Psalms 94:18-19
When I said, My foot slippeth;
thy mercy, O LORD, held me up. In the multitude of my thoughts within me
thy comforts delight my soul.
II Thessalonians 2:16-17
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself,
and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given [us] everlasting
consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and establish
you in every good word and work.
I Timothy 6:6
But godliness with contentment
is great gain.
Ephesians 6:10-18
Finally, my brethren, be strong
in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of
God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we
wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high [places]. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of
God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done
all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,
and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with
the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of
faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the
wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication
in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication
for all saints.
Hebrews 13:5-6
[Let your] conversation [be]
without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for
he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may
boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall
do unto me.
Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I [am] with
thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea,
I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Isaiah 50:5-9
The Lord GOD hath opened mine
ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. I gave my back
to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid
not my face from shame and spitting. For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore
shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and
I know that I shall not be ashamed. [He is] near that justifieth me; who
will contend with me? let us stand together: who [is] mine adversary? let
him come near to me. Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who [is] he [that]
shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall
eat them up.
Joshua 1:6-11
Be strong and of a good courage:
for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which
I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous,
that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my
servant commanded thee: turn not from it [to] the right hand or [to] the
left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the
law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein
day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is
written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and
of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD
thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest. Then Joshua commanded
the officers of the people, saying, Pass through the host, and command
the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall
pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your
God giveth you to possess it.
Psalms 23:4
Yea, though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art]
with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Wait on the LORD: be of good
courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

strength [is] in thee; in whose heart [are] the ways [of them].

Thou shalt not be afraid for
the terror by night; [nor] for the arrow [that] flieth by day; [Nor] for
the pestilence [that] walketh in darkness; [nor] for the destruction [that]
wasteth at noonday.
Isaiah 51:78
Hearken unto me, ye that know
righteousness, the people in whose heart [is] my law; fear ye not the reproach
of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings. For the moth shall eat
them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness
shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
James 5:9
Grudge not one against another,
brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
Luke 17:3-4
Take heed to yourselves: If
thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive
him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times
in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
Matthew 7:1

Psalms 119:42
So shall I have wherewith to
answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.
Romans 14:4
Who art thou that judgest another
man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall
be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
Romans 14:10
But why dost thou judge thy
brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand
before the judgment seat of Christ.
Romans 14:12
So then every one of us shall
give account of himself to God.
Job 30:20-21
I cry unto thee, and thou dost
not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me [not]. Thou art become cruel
to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.
Proverbs 11:17
The merciful man doeth good
to his own soul: but [he that is] cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Proverbs 12:10
A righteous [man] regardeth
the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked [are] cruel.
